Practical Life

Practical Life

Developing focus, attention to detail, being through, working memory, and confidence.

“The greatest development is achieved during the first years of life, and therefore it is then that the greatest care should be taken. If this is done, then the child does not become a burden; he will reveal himself as the greatest marvel of nature.”
– Maria Montessori

Children learn to take care of themselves, each other and their environment. Through practical activities like cooking, cleaning, feeding animals, learning to use tools like needles, pouring, transferring and cleaning after themselves, they come to know that we trust them and they are capable.

Challenge

Successful skills are the fruit of hard-- and often enjoyable-- work. Luckily, children are eager to exert themselves in challenging ways according to the sensitive period in development they find themselves in. A carefully prepared environment gives children practical activities that they will love and use.

We capitalize on the "I do it" attitude and encourage children to become resilient.

As Montessori guides, we do a lot of research, thinking, planning, differentiating our work, which children love. We constantly observe the challenges the children face and design activities through brainstorming with parents and other professionals to help the children overcome them.

Value

A carefully prepared environment where your child can engage in real challenges, with true work and accomplishment, will pay dividends throughout life.  At this stage children develop valuable skills such as order, planning, focus and attention.

Because of the preparation, difficulty, ad planning involved in the real work with real tools and real challenge we do, these type of activities are not the norm in regular childcare or conventional preschool and kindergarten.  Yet, it is the true nature of this unique approach that infuses confidence in the young child.

We craft a delightful approach to life that is not only healthier and more wholesome, but the benefits reaped in this period of life with careful attention will reap benefits for a lifetime!
